For all of the brand new wrestling fans out there – this is what the “Ratings War” is all about.
There was once a time in wrestling that for a six year period, the WWE was not the premiere wrestling organization in North America. Granted, they dominated the end of what was to be known as “The Ratings War,” but they – by no means – dominated the whole thing.
Believe it or not, there was a time when a group called the WCW (World Championship Wrestling) that was owned by AOL Time Warner (Ted Turner bought it back in the early 1990′s to be exact). This group was headed for a large amount of time by a man named Eric Bischoff. Under his leadership and domineering spirit, he took over the ratings on Monday nights with a new WCW show called NITRO. This section of The Balrog’s Lair looks at what the numbers show for the infamous “Ratings War” between the WWE (then WWF) and the WCW!
