TNA Major Impact: And the Foot Continues to Receive the Bullet
Written by: Joe on Thursday, May 14th, 2009
TBLWrestling.com Presents TNA Major Impact!

What bothers me the most about watching TNA Impact (and believe me, there is a fierce competition to win the title of what bothers me the most) is that no one seems to care that the show is becoming unwatchable. I’ve long defended TNA detractors when they say that the show is essentially WWE Lite. For the longest time that was nothing more than the masses regurgitating what they were reading on biased websites. And while I may not completely agree with the masses who make this claim, after watching the last two shows I am beginning to see what they are talking about.

When did the “wrestling alternative” become so focused on non-wrestling content in the only two hours they get to spend in front of a national audience each week? What continues to baffle me is that there is a new slogan in TNA called “Cross the Line” which is obviously aimed at getting WWE fans to “cross over” to watching TNA. Frankly, it’s a brilliant catch phase for many reasons, but the reason why I like it is because you can incorporate it into almost any pay-per-view event and any promo if you know what you’re doing. On the other hand, why would any wrestling fan in their right mind “cross over” to watching TNA when it really is becoming a watered down version of the WWE product?

What was the purpose of having all of the Jeff Jarrett video tonight? Do you realize that one of the former bright spots in all of professional wrestling – the TNA Knockouts division – could have featured one hell of a match if they were given all of that wasted time? What about the brilliant tag team division? What about giving more and better time to Abyss and Dr. Stevie?

How can anyone sit backstage at TNA, watch this mess, and then say, “Yes! We did it!” No wonder Christian got the hell out of TNA while he could…

The only thing that saved this show for me tonight was the vignette of Jeff Jarrett showing the audience the Nashville night life. And the only reason why this saved the show for me was because Jarrett went down “Printer’s Alley” and one of my favorite places in the world was somewhat featured – Lonnie’s Bar! No, you heathens – I’m not talking about the strip club (though I’ve been in there and gotten an awkward lap dance). I’m talking about Lonnie’s Bar, which happens to be right next to the strip club. I’ve stumbled out of that place a little bamboozled on more that one occasion during my visits to Nashville…

Quote of the Night:
“Hello ladies. Welcome to Lucky Pierre’s.” – The waiter at the restaurant where Taylor Wilde was waiting to meet her secret admirer. For those of you who don’t know what a Lucky Pierre is you may want to Google it…
