TNA Major Impact: Kevin Nash Back in the Ring?
Written by: Joe on Thursday, October 18th, 2007

TBLWrestling.com Presents TNA Major Impact!

For those of you looking for a review of the recent Bound for Glory pay-per-view, I suggest checking out Julian Radbourne’s review on this site. Bound for Glory is the “big event” of TNA’s year and the results look like the show definitely delivered! And hey – Sting has a world championship again!

One thing that really stands out to me when I watch TNA Impact is the over-dramatization of almost every single video package that they put together. The guy who does the voiceovers has a good voice for that type of stuff, but the way he makes every single match and every single event seem like it’s the end of the world if you don’t watch it…well it’s a bit much. And (as I’ve said in previous Major Impact reports) the fact that Mike Tenay and Don West aren’t skilled at hyping a match or an angle properly certainly does not help.

As TNA grows and tries to change the wrestling world, this is something that they really, really need to work on.

In terms of what happened on tonight’s Impact – I thought that the Shelley vs. Sabin match had all of the potential in the world until the completely useless interruption by Team 3D. I understand that TNA needs to set-up a new feud for Team 3D at the same time as setting up a higher-level feud for the Motor City Machine Guns, but I just can’t stand when they give Brother Ray or Brother Devon a microphone. I’d rather listen to a young girl tell me why John Cena is a great wrestler than listen to Brother Ray on the stick.

Though it wasn’t my major impact for the night, I thought it was interesting to see Glen Gilberti (formerly known as Disco Inferno in WCW) in a horribly produced backstage interview with Mike Tenay. The reason why I say it was horribly produced is because Mike Tenay is just not good at this “serious backstage” interview type of format. He’s as stiff as a board and just generally “bad” at the backstage stuff.

My baby girl the Awesome Kong was out in the ring again (she debuted as the Amazing Kong last week – must have been some copyright restrictions on the “Amazing” adjective). I have a feeling that the Awesome Kong is going to be a major player in women’s wrestling for the foreseeable future. I think that people have been looking for something different from the Playmate-turned wrestler approach that New York uses. Maybe Nashville can figure out a new formula with Kong at the forefront.

And let’s be honest – “Kong” is a kickass name!

The major impact for tonight, though, has to be the fact that it appears as though Kevin Nash will be getting back into the ring soon. The friction between he and Kurt Angle led to Kurt receiving the old Jackknife Powerbomb from “Dr.” Nash. At one point in a backstage interview tonight, Kevin admitted that he had been used as comic relief for the last two years and he’s fine with that.

I just have to get another comment out about how bad Tenay is at being on-camera. If you watched him during the Championship awards ceremony, he couldn’t help but sneer during each introduction. I mean, someone teach this man how to work! On top of that, his verbal cadence is so bad that it’s actually distracting from the overall meaning of the moment. Hey, if JR is in the process of renegotiating with WWE, then it might be time to send an emissary over to Oklahoma and see what it’ll take to get Good Ol’ JR down to Orlando!

Quote of the Night:
“nWo? You know what nWo stands for? I don’t even know what nWo stands for!” – Kurt Angle commenting on the new World order
