TNA Major Impact: X-Division Wrestlers Make an Impact
Written by: Joe on Thursday, March 8th, 2007

TBLWrestling.com Presents TNA Major Impact!

Welcome to the first edition of TNA Major Impact on TBLWrestling.com! First things first – a hearty thank you goes out to TBLWrestling.com’s Webmaster Eddie T. for lending me his brain power to come up with the new name for this column! Yes folks, this is a new name for what some may consider an old column. If you head over to our Opinions Archive and click on TNA Major Impact, you’ll find that not only are you taken to this column’s archive, but the archive of the previous version of this column: TNA Impact Wishes. Unfortunately, though I love the “wishes” format, it is an extremely time consuming task. And folks, we don’t get paid to post on TBLWrestling.com (damn TBL’s owner!), so I had to choose a different format that was a little bit less time consuming to accomplish!

The focus of this weekly column will be to bring you some discussion on the “major impact” item in each TNA Impact broadcast. So without any further adieu, let’s get to it!

This week’s major impact was not the introduction of Hector Guerrero or the crushing of So Cal Val. Nor was it the main event featuring Kurt Angle, Christian, Scott Steiner, Samoa Joe, Tomko, and Rhino. I want to kick off the inaugural TNA Major Impact by stating that the major impact of this week’s show was the 6-man tag team match in the middle of the show.

This match featured great wrestling from the X-Division wrestlers such as Sonjay Dutt, Eric Young, Robert Roode, Jay Lethal, Petey Williams, and James Storm. These guys are quick, they’re fast, they’re exciting to watch. This is a part of the show where I actually stop what I’m doing, turn to the television, and watch the entire match. I probably could have done without the cat fight between Gail Kim and Jackie Moore, but you know – these guys have pay per view matches to hype up and sell.

The wrestling featured in this 6-man match (not to be confused with the opening 6-man match or the main event 6-man match) is what separates TNA from the competition right now. You have quick wrestlers, quick action, and impactful events. And the winners of these matches aren’t obvious when you see who the wrestlers are (at least it’s not obvious to me yet).

TNA Impact had some other bright spots this week including the continued crazy character development of Abyss and, well, whenever you get Samoa Joe in the ring – you’ve got something good to watch!

Christian Cage and Kurt Angle led their respective teams in this week’s main event in what should be considered a runner-up “major impact” news item. Frankly, Kurt Angle’s belly-to-belly suplex of Christian Cage right over the top rope was worth the price of admission for me! Of course, I didn’t pay to watch this show…and the tickets to the Impact Zone are free… Hmmm… I guess that makes no sense!

TNA is pushing this new match for their upcoming pay per view where there is an X shaped scaffold over the ring. It looks pretty cool – you should check it out if you get a chance.

All in all, a good episode that saw Sting and Abyss end the show with a bit of a brawl – again, TNA has to sell their upcoming pay per view!

I hope you enjoyed this brief first edition of TNA Major Impact!
